Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was a very famous writer. He wrote many stories, such as BFG, Matilda, Going Solo, The Witches, Danny and the Giant Peach, etc. His works were at the library of Tunas Muda School where I work now or may be not longer. I decided to read his works because from the very first book I read, which is BFG (Big Friendly Giant), I became interested in reading all of his books.

The first book of him I read was BFG. The story was very interesting. I loved reading it. I read the story on April. I remember that it took less than 3 weeks to read the book because the book was very interesting and I couldn't stop reading it.
The story is about a little girl who meets a Big Friendly Giant (BFG). In the story BFG and the girl named Sofie goes to BFG castle and BFG tells her everything about what he does in the night. Then, the story continues to the mission to help the children of England by telling Queen of England and reminds her that there will be a bad giant who wants to eat the children. In the story

The story began when Sofie couldn't sleep at night. Sofie lived in a orphanage. She was an ordinary little girl who accidentally meets BFG at night when he takes the children's dreams into a bottle. In her sleepless night, she looked at a Big Giant who blew a trombone to all the children in the room while their fell asleep. I couldn't really remember how it worked but he blew the trombone to see the children's dreams and take the dream of the children. Sofie was full of curiousity and because of that, she meet eyes and eyes with BFG and BFG took her into his castle. He took Sofie with her because nobody knew what BFG actually do every night even when he flew away by running, people could't find him because ran so fast and lived in a very far place. In his castle, BFG, because he was friendly giant, he did not eat Sofie instead he took Sofie with her and he told all he knew to her. His favourite food is Snoozchumber (if I am not mistaken with the spelling), the food is like a cucumber but it big, it very big with some bubbles on the surface. He told Sofie how he possibly he caught a dream of a kid. He blew a trumpet to them so that sparkles went around the room. Them he took the dream by letting the sparkles went into the bottle. Then, how he was able to tell Queen of England and told him about the monsters who wanted to eat the children?

I loved the way he explore many words and plays with words. For example in Charlie and the Chocolate factory, he wrote "The Squares that look around". In Indonesia, we can translate it into two sentences, "Persegi yang terlihat melingkar" atau "Persegi yang melihat sekitar". He makes words become interesting and very entertaining for the children. I always laugh when I read his works.
