Holiday in Korea

Between 9-10 January 2014, I have my first experience to Korea...

It might be God's present to me because I went to Korea after I finished my thesis defence. hohoho...
I would like to share my experience in Korea. Hopefully you can find something to learn. I also would like to thank my family and my friends for their supports. Arigatou gonzaimasu.. ^^

I started my trip from Yogyakarta. There were four people: me, two of my friends, and a lecturer. We flew with Lion Air at 4 p.m., so we went to the Adi Sucipto airport first at 3 p.m. I didn't bring a big suitcase, I only brought the small one. T_T. "It didn't matter. It's only seven day trip." I thought. The flight delayed and we had to wait for one hour. While waiting for it, we took some pictures. hehe..

After one hour waiting, we flew to Jakarta at 5 p.m.

Wuuussshh....

One hour later, we arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport. The flight to Korea is at 10 p.m. While waiting for it, we ate at the airport. Around 9 p.m., we enter the international terminal of Soekarno Hatta. We also took some pictures while waiting for the flight.
At 10 p.m. we enter the plane, Garuda Indonesia Airline. It was a big plane. In one row, there were eight seats. I sat next to the window. I could see the sky at night. Wow! It was a very wonderful view. I could see the horizon at night-the horizon between the earth and the dark blue sky. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any picture. Huhu..TT.TT
I could also see the (might be) Brunei Darusalam from above. The city was very bright, just like the stars in the clear sky. And I lamented I couldn't take the picture. huhu...
But, in the plane, I was not disappointing because the facilities and the service were sooooooo... good. In the plane, I could watch films, play games, listen to the radio or music. It is because in front of every seat, there was a TV (touch screen)

Along the way to South Korea, I couldn't sleep properly. I slept for only 3 hours. I woke up and slept again. I woke up and slept again. I woke up and slept again. At 5 p.m. my lecturer woke me up and told me that the breakfast would come. My lecturer recommended the European food for breakfast. Then, the stewardess came and asked me about the food. I offer what my lecturer recommended. After that, I drank my medicine (I got lungs infection). huhu..I hoped I could stay in Korea without bringing those medicine, but it didn't go as what I wanted.
Then, the breakfast came at 5.30. Oh My God! I couldn't eat the food right after that! huhu.. I had to wait one hour to eat food after I drunk my medicine. My friends and my lecturer had already eaten the food. The food was actually very delicious. There were a bread, mashed potatoes, beef, fruits, etc. (European breakfast) I didn't remember them all. Then, I couldn't wait any more, I ate the food 45 minutes after the medicine. Waaa....
"IT'S OK!" I said to myself

Why I could get the European food?
My stomach is very welcome to every food in the world. ^^

After arriving in the Incheon, we hadn't felt the cold yet. We were still inside of the airport. Then, we changed our cloths in the restroom. We changed our cloths with long johns, we washed our face and brushed our teeth. I wore double long john and I wore sweater, jeans, shawl, and wool hat. I covered them with a great jacket. There was so cold.

Then, we started finding a place to keep our bags. But, we wasted 2 hours walking around and searching for the place where we can keep our bags. At last, we brought the bags and we went to our hotel. Our plan is actually going to Full House or Jeiju Island, but when we looked at the clock, there was at 1.00 p.m., well at last, we couldn't go there. We change our plans to go to another place.

AHA! The most memorable incident was after we got the bus. OK! let me explained it. We got the bus in incheon, the bus is number 22 (maybe), we got onto the bus and we took some pictures in there. We stopped near the shopping center. As usual, my lecturer checked the completeness and the number of bags. There were 9 bags (one of us brought 2 bags). My lecturer brought one copper and one backpack and one kitbag. Suddenly, my lecturer realized that her backpack was left in the bus. Oh my God! This was the most terrible moment. We are strangers and it was the first time we went to Soult Korea. We were panic and as soon as possible my lecturer ran to chase the bus. It was about two blocks and my lecturer still chased the bus. We didn't want to lose our lecturer, so we started to follow her. But, after two blocks, we didn't see her anymore. My friends and I were panic. I am the older and I had to be their leader. I said that we had to go back to the first place and waited there. Fortunately, when we arrived at our first place, our lecturer was there!

How could that happen?

My lecturer chased the bus until the next bus stop and after that she asked some police there. Fortunately, the police were very kind so that they called the bus driver to give the bags to the next bus which stop at the place where we stopped. We were very happy we can be together again. We take some pictures then. LOL.
We realized that the time was not enough for us to go further, so we canceled our plan and we moved to the hotel. The name of the hotel is Shin Cheon (if I am not mistaken). We just had one train to go without transit from subway to go to the hotel. It was kind of embarrassing carrying big coopers and big bags and we were just like a real travellers from another country. We bought. From the station to the hotel, we had to walk for about 15 minutes because we bought many bags and they were big. Fiuhh...

I was so tired at that time. I needed to take a rest.  In the train, I just fell a sleep.

It didn't take long time to arrive in the last halt. We got out from the train and we went out from there. We bought many bags and in that station, there were many stairs and we needed to go up. Fortunately, Korean people are so friendly, when we wanted to go up, an uncle came closer and carry our bags without saying anything, he just gave a big smile and carry our things. At the top of the stairs we said "kamsamida"and he gave us his name card, He point to one of the building and he said to come to his restaurant one day. Oo...promosi... wkwkwk (I said in my heart).

To get the hotel, we need to walk for about 10 minute. It was a bit tricky to find the hotel because the location is behind a building. The hotel was not big but it was nice. The people there were very friendly. One of the employee there who could speak English guided us to the hotel and he explained everything that we need in there. The room were nice. You could see in the pictures.

That was the cheapest and the nearest hotel that we could find near the Renaissance Hotel, the place the conference held. The name of the hotel was IMI hotel. From the hotel, we could see a nice view. From that hotel too, we saw out first snow. Wooew.. There were one bed, one bathroom with transparent door, a TV, a refrigerator, a computer, wifi, and a hair dryer. We used a card to open the door. Inside the room was very warm, but outside the room, even there is a Air-Con, we could feel the chill whether from the outside. We only stayed at that hotel for 3 days. The first night in South Korea, we went for a little walk on the street. The whether was very cold. It was like riding a motor without jacket to Kaliurang. haha... But, the view was very different. The street was not as traffic as in Indonesia. There were very few car on the road. Well, the view is different, but I still could feel the same atmosphere like in Yogyakarta. May be I still felt like I was dreaming (-__-)

We were starving and on the way to go back to the hotel, we looked for a restaurant. From the first, we wanted to eat the street food. The cheapest one, but THIS IS KOREA! MEN. How many time you could go to Korea? We decided to eat in the restaurant. We got into one of the restaurant around, then we offer the best menu there.

We ordered two kinds of chicken soup. I forgot the name. My friend in white coat is very fond of Korea, she could speak Korean and she knows all about Korean artists and food. Later, I'll asked again about the name. We all ordered Soju....!! Korean beer. The ones in the green bottles. Those are Soju. Those are very expensive. If we bought them in the mini market, the price is not really expensive. And there was always kimchi for free. The chicken soup was soo... delicious. One with white soup and another with brown soup. I didn't know what kind of ingredients that they used. But those were soo....delicious. And inside the chickens, we could found some cooked rice. After the dinner, we practiced for the presentation. I was the presenter and I practiced very hard for the performance. Thank you all of my friends ^^

The next day, in the morning, we went to the seminar hotel. As I said earlier, that was the cheapest and the nearest hotel that we could find. To get to the Renaissance Hotel, we only took 10 minute walk. Renaissance Hotel was a very luxury hotel, we could feel it from the architecture. The hotel was very tall and the staff could speak English. It's very easy and we could ask anything to the staff.

On the first day, we presented our presentation. The presentation went smoothly and other participants applauded us for our presentation. They were interested in our experiment and wanted to know more about our tools. We were very happy at that time. After the presentation was over, we felt very relaxed. We went to Yoksam

We decided to take a walk around the hotel and ate Korean food in a restaurant. The restaurant was small but it was comfortable. The second day,
We only watched the performance from other country. There were many participants: South Korea, India, Malaysia, etc. We were not the only participants from Indonesia. There is another participant from President University of Jakarta. Unfortunately, they went to Korea by themselves without any help from their university. After the presentation finished and the seminar closed, we decided to go walking around the

Finally, after the long day in the conference, we went to Song Pha with our friends from President University. The Lake was beautiful, clean and the weather was very nice and cold. but it was really fun to walk around the lake and take some pictures.

Then, we went to Lotte World and Lotte Mart in Korea. The place was soooo big. It was like a mall but with supermarket and play are. I remembered buying some gingseng tea for my family there. Outside the Lotte Worls, there were some illumination. The illumination was very beautiful. We took some picture there, but unfortunately my outfit was rather black, so the result was not clear (you know, you cannot see the face really clear using the low light camera) I suggest you to take pictures with high quality camera and use the bright outfit.
Look at the difference!haha

After that, we ate in one of the food court at the mall. the menu was various. There were also some Japanese menu there, like chicken katsu with curry sauce and omurice. I was sad because I cannot try to eat the menu. But it's okay because we are in Korea, Why don't we try to eat Korean food. Right?

The second hotel that we chose to stay was not really and hotel. You can find the hotel in www.agoda.com. Actually, we found the hotel in that website. At that time the price was 24 USD, but I don't know now whether it is cheaper or more expensive. Well, it is not a hotel actually, it is a guess house. It was a nice guesshouse. We could cook in the kitchen because they provide us some noodles, eggs, breads, and jams for us to cook. The hotel is located near ()if I'm not mistaken) Dongdaymun.

I was very lucky at that time, because my friend, Tasya loves Korea very much that she is the one who arrange the tour around Korea by herself. I didn't even know where to buy the ticket or the places that we have to go or the hotel to stay. LOL

We went to Korean's Folk Village. The place usually is used to make a film.

When we were there, we also watch some performances. The people who use robe and walk on it, ride a horse, use rings, and jump, and dance, and so on. The attraction was very amazing that we spent more than half an hour to watch it and until the end.

Next is our third day in Korea. We went to many places in Korea. We only have 3 days left in Korea. We went to the capital of Seoul. The street was very wide, but there were just a few cars. The temperature was still cold but the sun shone very bright that I couldn't hardly open my eye in front of camera. The pictures below were the statue of the emi

We went to the palace. In front oft he palace, there were some guardians and at that time, we could see the changing of the guard ceremony. it was very cool. Not long after that, we can enter the palace.

The palace was sooo beautiful. We could see the rooms, and the buildings are exactly the same like in the film.

In Dongdaemon city, we walked and searching for attractive places. After we finished walking around the castle, we went out of the castle and we saw a chestnut seller. We bought some chestnuts and we ate while walking to another place.

I don't remember where we ate at that time but we ate some soup and something like bibimbab near Dongdaemon.

The next day, we went to a market (I forget the name). There were many souvenirs, clothes, and foods. in that market, I looked for t-shirts, chopsticks, and snack for my family in Indonesia. The prices were not very expensive. AT-shirt was around  100 Won and I bought some small purses. Some sellers can speak Indonesia. I was so surprise. We can also bargain, but may be since they now some Indonesian language they know the average price for Indonesian people. Some seller were very nice. The gave us extra discount or free souvenir if we buy a lots in their place.

Many of the Korean foods that we ate were soup. It's because the weather was cool and the best thing to eat was a warm soup. But it was very delicious. I suggest you to buy the red color soup if you went to Korea for the first time, because the spicy soup (red color one) was tastier than the white soup. It's not that spicy.

After that, we went home and the first thing we did was taking some pictures with the owner. They are very kind and I suggest you to stay in the place where they provide you with food and ingredients because can cook and have a breakfast in the morning.

At night, we went out around the hotel and we ate Korean barbecue. It was so yummmyyyy.....
the meat was juicy. They provide us with some garlic. At first, I think we cannot eat the garlic, but after we grilled the garlic tasted very good. It tasted like a nut and I am kind of like the taste of the grilled garlic. Before Korean wave came like a tornado in Indonesia like now. I have experienced something wonderful. That's why I thank God for this moment. I hope I can do the same experience again some day. Thank you my beloved friends and my teacher.

This is Korean airport. The inside was soooo beautiful. It still had some Christmas decorations at that time
